A stage that invites you to several stops along the way for those who want to watch birds, feel the beat of history or enjoy beautiful views. Choose the eastern or western route at Horna fure, or combine them for a lovely circular hike.

The cozy town of Åhus attracts a lot of tourists with its long beautiful beaches and its well-preserved medieval town centre. The town's history stretches all the way back to the late Iron Age/Viking Age. At the Aosehus visitor center there is a castle ruin that dates back to the 12th century. The bail was used to collect tolls for those who traveled on the river.

The journey then continues south through the sandy farmland along the eastern side of Lake Hammarsjön. Just outside Åhus, the landscape changes character and turns into pine forest, which characterizes large parts of the coastal areas. At Horna fure, you either choose to go east via Täppet, or west via Sånnarna. Both routes end in Åhus.

At the rest area at Ekenabben there is a dry toilet, bench/table, barbecue areas with barbecue charcoal dispensers and parking. Along the route there is the opportunity to experience several cultural rarities. At Ekenabben, you can read about ancient dance palaces and also view the Archimedes screw, which was used to pump the water out of Nosabyviken during the dredging in the 19th century.

From Ekenabben you continue south on the stage. Along the way, those interested in birds can take a detour out to the Håslövs ängar visitor site to watch. The trail continues towards the Hercules visitor site, here you get to experience wetland environments with rich nature. You see the black tern looking for food in the air and hear the peculiar sound of the reeds. The bird tower offers the opportunity to rest and enjoy a nice view of the ponds and Hammarsjön, meadows and grazing cows. In the outdoor museum of the bird tower there is information about nature and culture. In the nature reserve, there are old remains of the old brickworks that created the ponds that are today popular nesting places for several bird species.

Via Täppet (19 km)

You walk the trail to the east and catch a glimpse of the horizon at Täppet between towering pines. At the beach, you follow Hanöbukten south, until the trail diverges towards central Åhus. From Ekenabben to Åhus via Täppet, the stage is 19 kilometers.

Via Sånnarna (24 km)

At Horna fure you take the western route through the meager sandy lands of the Sånnars that have been cultivated for a very long time. A mill that has produced a peculiar flora and a rich insect life with several rarities. During the height of summer, the meager sandy grounds glow with intensely flowering plants in yellow, red and blue. On the really lean soils, heather flowers, blue monkshood, sorrel and yellow fat bud thrive, while the typical woody plants on the more nutritious soils are blue fire, ox tongue, sand white and puke wheat. On the sandy grounds there are plenty of lichens. Many are extremely specialized and rare, such as the gray lichen, which grows on old oak fence posts in the open sandy lands around Ripa. From Ekenabben to Åhus via Sånnarna, the stage is 24 kilometers.

Information about Rinkaby shooting range

The stage passes near Rinkaby field, where there are sometimes exercises with live ammunition and heavy traffic. Please note that it is of course not suitable for camping on the practice field.
